Vintage Tibetan Buddhist Prayer Box Pendant [Gau -Box] Nepal Sterling Silver with Lapis Lazuli and Coral

from $165.00
This unusual pendant is made in traditional Newari style craftsmanship dating back to the time of the Kingdom of Lalitpur [Patan]Nepal.
many of these items were made for trade with Tibet.
Executed in 925 Sterling Silver it is shaped as a sacred Mandala set with Lapis Lazuli and Coral / both sacred Chakra stones for the Tibetans.and tiny little filigree heart shapes.
The center mandala "box" opens and reveals a space where a special "Mantra" [ prayer ] can find its place.
We fell in love with this unique style when we first came to Boudhanath / Kathmandu where I discovered it in one of the shops close to the Huge Tibetan Buddhist Stupa, famous pilgrimage site visited by Tibetan Buddhists from all over the world.
We found out that it is a "dying skill" since it is so work-involved that the artisans skilled in it just don't make a good enough hour wage in Nepal and give up their traditional livelihood to become workers in the jewelry industry in Malaysia instead.
So we are happy to be able to offer you this jewel as a special keepsake to be treasured.
The pendant is 1.5 inches in diameter and 1/2 high and is available without (0”) or a 16” or 18” Sterling Silver chain.
