Newari Style Coral and Pearl 24KG Vermeil on Sterling Filigree Mandala Earrings / Vintage Nepal

$125.00
These beautiful earrings are made in traditional Newari style craftsmanship dating back to the time of the Kingdom of Lalitpur [Patan]Nepal.
Executed in 24KG Vermeil on 925 Sterling Silver they are set with Pearls and Coral which form a sacred Mandala pattern.
The details of the Coral set in the ear wire in this pair are simply exquisite.
The combination of Coral,Pearls and gold is of spiritual value to the Tibetans and we have observed it time and again in their adornments of jewelry as well as sacred objects such as conches, dorjes and the sacred statues.
We fell in love with this unique style when we first came to Boudhanath / Kathmandu where I discovered it in one of the shops close to the Huge Tibetan Buddhist Stupa, famous pilgrimage site visited by Tibetan Buddhists from all over the world.
We found out that it is a "dying skill" since it is so work-involved that the artisans skilled in it just don't make a good enough hour wage in Nepal and give up their traditional livelihood to become workers in the jewelry industry in Malaysia instead.
So we are happy to be able to offer you these little jewels as a special keepsake to be treasured.
Please note that the Coral Cabochons are hand-cut and polished and thus not totally even which adds to the uniqueness of the pieces.
